GOG.com Closes its Digital Doors
Pick up standard PC games has just gotten a bit bit trickier, as one of the leading sources of retro games shuts up shop.
Good enough Old Games, better well-known as GOG.com, has fold, after its operators successful the decision that it couldn't continue in its current shape. The site, which sold DRM free retroactive games updated to pass on neo computers, was owned and operated by Atomic number 48 Projekt, the Polish videogame company causative The Witcher.
In a message on the GOG website, the staff aforementioned they were grateful for the suffer they'd received terminated the last ii years, and said that working on GOG had been a "great adventure" into play's past. They added that despite the shutdown, the idea behind the site wasn't necessarily gone forever.
A post on the place's official Twitter feed seems to intimate that the lack of DRM on GOG products was making information technology difficult to sustain developers and publishers happy, but whether that's the reason for the closure, Oregon just one part of it, ISN't pure. GOG advises keeping an eyeball on the site for updates on how users will exist able to re-download all their games over again before the land site is gone for good.
This is in reality a rattling sad Clarence Shepard Day Jr., as on with Steam, GOG was unitary of the primo places to beak up elder games without having to distribute a small fortune on eBay, surgery shirk around for hours disagreeable to puzzle a spunky designed for Windows 95 to work on XP. Hopefully GOG 2.0 will come soon, although if it does, it's likely to represent quite different.
